How do you borrow against tokenized stocks on Aave?

One way is Catch: hold a Coinbase stock token on Base such as NVDAc, open Earn in the Catch Telegram app, put the token up under Borrow against your stocks and slide to borrow USDC through Aave v4 on Base, or through Morpho when that costs less for the amount. How much you can borrow depends on the USDC lenders have free and can be capped by it, and if the token's price falls far enough the loan is liquidated: part of your collateral is sold to repay it.

Borrow USDC against a stock token

  1. Hold a stock token on Base

Aave takes Coinbase's stock tokens on Base as collateral, such as NVDAc. If you have none, send USDC on Base to the address Catch shows under Add money and buy one; Catch charges 0.50% once per move, $0.10 minimum on the buy.

  2. Open Earn

In the Catch Telegram app, open the Earn tab and pick the stock under Borrow against your stocks.

  3. Put up and slide

Enter how much of the token to put up and how many dollars to borrow. Catch shows the price at which the token would be sold to repay the loan, then one slide borrows the USDC into your balance.

What Aave takes as collateral

Aave v4 on Base takes seven Coinbase stock tokens as collateral for USDC loans: AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc and TSLAc. Aave says the stock tokens are collateral only: you cannot borrow the tokens themselves.

Aave says its market is open 24/7, and that its price feeds hold the last published price over weekends and US market holidays, so collateral values do not change until US markets reopen.

In Catch, each loan goes to Aave or to Morpho on Base, whichever costs less for the amount and has the USDC free. Borrowing and repaying carry no Catch fee: you pay the lender's variable interest and the network fee. The rate and the price at which your loan would be liquidated move over time, so Catch shows both before you slide.

Doing it on the web

On catch.exchange, the Borrow · Lend tab on each of these stocks' pages runs the same Aave market: you connect a wallet that holds the token, supply it, then borrow USDC against it.

Where Catch is not a fit

If the token's price falls far enough, Aave liquidates the loan: part of your collateral is sold to repay it, and the liquidator keeps a bonus from it. Catch refuses a borrow that would leave the health factor under 1.10, and Aave liquidates below 1.00. If you cannot watch a loan and repay when prices fall, Catch is not a fit.

Borrowing depends on the USDC lenders have free in the market. When most of it is lent out, the amount you can borrow is capped by what is free, or the borrow is unavailable until lenders add USDC or borrowers repay.

If you live in the US, Catch is not a fit: Coinbase says its stock tokens are not available to persons in the US and other restricted places. Robinhood says its Stock Tokens are not available to residents of the US, Canada, the UK or Switzerland.

Robinhood's stock tokens on Robinhood Chain are not collateral on Aave, and the Catch Telegram app borrows only against tokens held on Base.

Questions

Can you use tokenized stocks as collateral on Aave?
Yes. Aave says Coinbase's AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc and TSLAc can be deposited as collateral on Aave v4 on Base to borrow USDC, each with its own collateral factor. Coinbase says its stock tokens are not available to persons in the US and other restricted places.
How much can I borrow against my stock tokens?
It depends on the token, how much of it you put up and the USDC lenders have free. Catch shows the most you can borrow for what you put up before you slide, and that figure can be capped by the free USDC.
What happens if the stock price falls?
Your loan gets riskier. Below a health factor of 1.00 Aave can liquidate it: part of your collateral is sold to repay the debt, and the liquidator keeps a bonus. Catch shows the price at which that happens and refuses a borrow that would leave the health factor under 1.10, and you can repay at any time, except while Aave pauses a token for a corporate action such as a stock split.
Who can borrow against these stock tokens?
Coinbase says its stock tokens are not available to persons in the US and other restricted places. Robinhood's tokens are not collateral on Aave, and Robinhood says its Stock Tokens are not available to residents of the US, Canada, the UK or Switzerland. Catch blocks borrowing only in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia, Belarus, Myanmar and four occupied regions of Ukraine.
