How can I buy part of a share of an expensive US stock?
One way is stock tokens in Catch, a Telegram app: there is no minimum trade for a single stock, so you type the dollars you pay and get part of one token when a stock costs more than you want to spend, for 0.50% once per move, $0.10 minimum. Each is a token that tracks a US-listed stock or ETF, issued by Coinbase or by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited, not by Catch, and the issuers say they are not available to persons in the US.

Buy part of a stock token
Open Catch
Open Catch in Telegram or on the web, on your phone or a computer.
Add money
Open Withdraw or Send (Pay in the Coinbase app), pick USDC and the network called Base, and send at least $5 to the address Catch shows under Add money. Only send on Base or Robinhood Chain; other networks may be lost.
Type what you pay
Pick a stock or ETF and type the dollars under You pay. The ticket shows how much of the token you get, the price and the fee; then slide to buy. Catch charges 0.50% once per move, $0.10 minimum.
Fractional shares and stock tokens
Catch does not sell fractional shares. It sells stock tokens, and with no minimum trade for a single stock, a buy smaller than one token's price gets you part of one token.
FINRA's investor guide to fractional shares says you often can't trade fractional shares outside of regular market hours, which are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET. Catch has no trading hours, so part of a token can be bought or sold at night, at the weekend and on US market holidays.
While US markets are closed there is no live share price to compare with, so token prices can move away from the last close. You see the price and the fee before you slide.
Catch lists 70 stocks and ETFs: 17 have a Coinbase token on Base and 69 have a Robinhood token on Robinhood Chain. Each stock token is a token that tracks a US-listed stock or ETF. The tokens are issued by Coinbase on Base and by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited on Robinhood Chain, not by Catch.
Where Catch is not a fit
Catch sells stock tokens held in your Catch wallet, not a brokerage account. If you want a brokerage account, Catch is not a fit.
Small buys pay the $0.10 minimum fee: on a buy of the least you can add, $5 in USDC on Base, that is 2%.
If you live in the US, Catch is not a fit: Coinbase says its stock tokens are not available to persons in the US and other restricted places. Robinhood says its Stock Tokens are not available to residents of the US, Canada, the UK or Switzerland.

Questions
- Why can I not buy a fraction of a share at my broker?
- FINRA's guide says it varies by brokerage firm: some offer fractional share trading on a wide range of stocks and ETFs, some on fewer, and some not at all. Catch sells stock tokens instead, with no minimum trade for a single stock.
- Can I buy part of a stock token outside US market hours?
- Yes. Catch has no trading hours, so you can buy or sell part of any of the 70 stocks and ETFs on its list at night, at the weekend and on US market holidays. While US markets are closed there is no live share price to compare with, so token prices can move away from the last close.
- What does a small buy cost?
- Catch charges 0.50% once per move, $0.10 minimum. If you add $5 in USDC on Base and buy with all of it, the $0.10 minimum applies, which is 2% of that buy. Selling is another move and pays the fee again. You see the price and the fee before you slide.
- Who can buy these stock tokens?
- Coinbase says its stock tokens are not available to persons in the US and other restricted places. Robinhood says its Stock Tokens are not available to residents of the US, Canada, the UK or Switzerland. Catch blocks buying and selling only in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia, Belarus, Myanmar and four occupied regions of Ukraine.
